Professional boxing used to be the darling of gamblers back in the fifties, sixties, seventies, and even eighties. In the new millennium, however, boxing has given way to mixed martial arts, with millions of fans around the world.

On Saturday night, the UFC live feed was overloaded with viewers who were anticipating the return of Brock Lesnar to the octagon for the first time in nearly a year. Lesnar did not disappoint, pulling off a second round victory over Shane Carwin.

As was the case with boxing for the last generation, mixed martial arts seems to have a biggest match in history once every couple of months. The Lesnar return was one that fans had been waiting a long time for, and it made Saturday nights card that much more special.

The fight took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. That was good news for thousands of gamblers who were able to place bets in Sin City sports books just minutes before the main event was set to take place. When Lesnar left the ring last year, it was because of health reasons, and that made the victory over Carwin much sweeter.

"This isn't about me tonight," said Lesnar after the fight, "This is about my family. This is about my doctors. This is about my training partners, my training staff. I am blessed by god. Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you a humble champion. And I'm still the toughest SOB around, baby."

Carwin tested the patience of the gamblers who had bet on Lesnar early in the match. In the first round, Carwin spent most of the round beating on Lesnar. By the second round, Carwin was out of energy, and Lesnar quickly turned the match in his favor. Lesnar won by submission victory.
