Upsets Continue To Hurt Gamblers In NCAA Tournament
The second round of the college basketball NCAA Tournament started on Saturday, but judging from the early results, someone forgot to tell the underdogs they were supposed to lose. That is becoming a common problem for gamblers who have wagered on the favorites.
Villanova was a team that many fans had picked to represent the South region in the Final Four. Their season ended, however, when they were stunned by St. Mary's. The win advances St. Mary's to the Sweet Sixteen.
As the day wore on, it appeared that upsets were again going to be the norm, but two teams stopped the bleeding for the favorites. Tennessee and Butler were the second and third team to advance to the next round with wins over Ohio and Murray State, respectively.
Kansas, a team that a majority of analysts consider to be the top team in the country, had their hands full with Northern Iowa. Halfway through the second half, Northern Iowa was down by eleven points, but the game had not yet ended.
Still to come on Saturday evening was another top seed, Kentucky. The Wildcats will be facing a Wake Forrest squad that has plenty of talent, but has struggled with consistency throughout the year.
Duke and Syracuse, the two other number one seeds, will be in action on Sunday. The second round wraps up Sunday and then the teams that survive will have a chance to regroup before play begins in the Sweet Sixteen next Thursday.
