US Open Betting Odds: Mickelson On The Move Into Saturday
The betting odds for a major golf tournament do not seem to change much from tournament to tournament. The top players in the world can always be found near the top with the shortest odds to win. That is right where the number one and number two golfers in the world sat coming into the US Open.
Tiger Woods is still the number one player in the world despite struggling in the past couple of tournaments he has entered, including The Masters. Mickelson, on the other hand, has a chance to pass Woods as the top ranked player if he can win at Pebble Beach this weekend.
The two champions both came out of the gates slow on Thursday, as did most of the field, Friday, Mickelson stabilized his score with a round of sixty-six. The leader is currently Graeme McDowell at -3, Mickelson is at -1 entering the third round.
Ernie Els, another golfer who has won his share of events, is also at -1, and has just teed off on Saturday. Els and Mickelson for years have been chasing Woods around golf courses, and it now appears that the tide has turned.
Woods is not completely out of the mix at the top yet, but it is getting late. Through eight holes, he is even. That pace will not allow him to catch the leaders today unless they come back to the pack when they play later this evening.
One of the top stories at the tournament this week has been seventeen year-old sensation Ryo Ishikawa, who is -1 through two rounds. Ishikawa will need to withstand the pressure as the weekend rolls on. Today Ishikawa has just teed off.
