Vikings Gamble On Favre Key To Playoff Win On Sunday
The Minnesota Vikings and their head coach went out of their way to convince Brett Favre to come back to football. They won that battle, but the team has gambled their future on a chance to win now.
On Sunday, Favre will have to be the difference maker to have the gamble pay off. The Vikings had a great regular season while securing the number two seed in the NFC, but Favre was brought in to win in the playoffs, not the regular season.
Minnesota went to the playoffs last season without Favre and were bounced from the tournament in their first playoff game. A repeat of that result will ensure that the season is a failure for Minnesota. That is something both Favre and the Vikings are hoping to avoid.
Many critics were concerned that Favre could make it through a sixteen game season and remain healthy. That question has been answered. Now, the question becomes whether or not Favre has enough left in that right arm for three more great games.
Favre is no stranger to playoff football. In his lengthy career, Favre has experienced both the highs and lows of playoff football. He has won the Super Bowl, but also been the cause of playoff losses thanks to some poor decision making.
The Dallas Cowboys will be Favre's first target in this year's playoffs, and Dallas is playing at an extremely high level over the past month. It is a game that could go down to the wire, much like the outcome of the Brett Favre bet that Minnesota has made.
