West Virginia Puts on Dominant Performance For Pollsters
The West Virginia Mountaineers are a team with a goal of winning a national championship, and they went a long way towards reaching that goal by scoring early and often against Maryland in a nationally televised game Thursday night.
The Mountaineers play in what most people think is a weak conference, the Big East. Because of that, it is important that when they play outside their conference against teams in power conferences, like Maryland, that they show no weakness.
On Thursday night, they accomplished their goal, by running up 28 first quarter points and forcing 5 turnovers in route to a 45-24 final.
The score might be the only downfall for the Mountaineers as they jumped to a big lead early and then seemed to put it in cruise control, which might hurt them with voters who did not watch the game and might just go by the final score.
West Virginia is currently ranked #5 in the polls and appears to be a team that could throw a wrench in the championship plans of teams from some of the bigger conferences like the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, and Pac Ten.
