Western Conference Finals Betting Odds: Lakers Favored Over Suns
The Los Angeles Lakers are the two time defending Western Conference champions and tonight they begin their quest to win the conference for a third straight year. To accomplish that feat, the Lakers must defeat a hot Phoenix Suns team.
The Suns came into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the NBA, and through two rounds, nothing the Suns have done on the court changed that label. Phoenix disposed of both Portland and San Antonio on their way to the conference finals.
For much of the year, analysts predicted that Amare Stoudemire would be traded to a contender. It turns out that Stoudemire was playing for a contender when the playoffs began, but he did not have to change uniforms to do so. Now, the superstar has his Suns just four wins from the NBA Finals.
The Lakers have joined the Boston Celtics as teams that exemplify how to flip the switch come playoff time. Los Angeles limped into the playoffs having played some of their worst basketball of the year down the stretch. Once the big lights came on, however, L.A. has risen to the occasion.
After beating Oklahoma City and Utah in the first two rounds, the Lakers are only one step from the opportunity to defend their NBA title. Kobe Bryant is healthier than he has been in months, and the Lakers are playing some of their best basketball in the past two weeks.
Tonight's game is at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the Lakers holding home court advantage over the Suns. L.A. won three of the four meetings between the teams during the regular season and are 6.5 point favorites in game one of the series. The total for the game is 211, suggesting that tonight's game will be a high scoring affair.
