Will An NFL Team Gamble On Michael Vick?

Michael Vick has much more pressing issues facing him after he was released from jail on Wednesday, but the NFL is still on the minds of sports fans everywhere. Will there be a team that gambles on Vick in the future, that is the million dollar question.

Vick had not even been out of prison for twenty-four hours and already the football talk has begun. Analysts are lining up from coast to coast to try and find the perfect fit for Vick.

"There are a lot of issues that need to be worked out before any team can even consider signing Vick," said observer Jackie Fremere, "First and foremost will be whether or not the NFL will even welcome him back this year."

That is an issue that has been heavily debated. Vick served his time in prison for his crime, but NFL tyrant Roger Goodell has not sunk his claws into Vick yet. The issue is whether Vick has met his obligatory suspension from Goodell through jail time, or whether the NFL wants to pile on.

There is a penalty in the NFL for excessive celebration. There is also one for using excessive force when tackling a quarterback. A league built on staying away from excessive behavior should consider strongly before adding on to the sentence Vick has already served.

Assuming the NFL does the right thing and allows Vick to seek employment, the questions then focus on whether or not he will be in football playing condition for this season. That is a question that team management will have to decide, and a gamble several teams are most likely to take.
