Wimbledon Betting Odds Change With Nadal Injury
For the past several years, there are certain things that can be counted on in men's tennis. One of those things has been that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer would be meeting in the finals of a major tennis tournament.
That will not be the case at this year's Wimbledon. The tournament gets under way on Monday, and it will be missing one of the premiere players of today's generation. Rafael Nadal, the number one player in the world, is sitting out Wimbledon with an injury.
"When I start a tournament like Wimbledon, it is to try and win," said Nadal in announcing his removal from the tournament, "and my feeling right now is I'm not ready to play to win." Nadal has been battling tendinitis in his knee.
Federer has been installed as the gambling favorite to win another Grand Slam event. He is -125. Andy Murray becomes the second choice at +275, with every other player being somewhat of a long shot.
The tennis world has become accustomed to epic Nadal versus Federer battles on the court at major championship locations. The two have taken the reigns from Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras. Tennis has always been defined on the men's side by their rivalries.
Federer has won all four of the major championships. he completed the cycle in the French Open just a few weeks ago, when Nadal was knocked out early. That came as a surprise with Nadal having a reputation of being the best clay court player in the world.
