The US Open has dominated sports betting over the past week. With the NFL, NHL, and NBA seasons all completed, there has been slim pickings for gamblers. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were the betting darlings of a long drawn out Open.

The Open concluded on Monday with Lucas Glover capturing the title, leaving both Woods and Mickelson behind. That certainly cost gamblers some of their bank rolls, and now the attention has shifted to tennis, and Wimbledon.

Roger Federer is the betting favorite to win another grand slam title. He recently completed his career grand slam by winning at the French Open. That was made possible by an upset of clay court specialist Rafael Nadal.

Nadal, the number one seed in the world, declared himself out for Wimbledon with leg injury issues. That left Federer as the overwhelming favorite, and in the first round, he has shown he is here to stay.

Federer defeated Yen-hsun-Lu of Taiwan in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2. It was a strong start to what Federer hope4s will be a long tournament run culminating in another grand slam title.

Now that he has won the French Open, many analysts are calling Federer the best male tennis player of all time. He is still young enough to win a couple of more major titles, and with each one he moves closer to ending any debate over who was the best ever.
