World Cup Betting Odds Suggest US Should Beat Algeria
In the 2010 World Cup already the likes of Spain, Italy, France, and England have found out the hard way that just because they are the betting favorites, does not mean they will win the matches. That is the dilemma facing the US squad as they prepare for today's match with Algeria.
The US team has been installed as the betting favorites at sports books around the world. Online sports book Bodog
has US listed with odds of -110. Algeria will give underdog gamblers hope, offering odds of +300.
At stake for the US is moving on to the knockout round. If the US can handle Algeria today, they not only would move on, but would also have placed themselves in a position to possibly win the group, and avoid Germany in the round of sixteen.
The US has responded to adversity already in this World Cup, falling behind to both England and Slovenia in the opening minutes of the game. The US fought back to play England to a 1-1 draw, and had to score two goals to tie Slovenia.
Many US fans and players felt they had a win stolen from them in the Slovenia game when Maurice Edu scored what should have been the game winner, but the referee of the match whistled the US for a foul. In others eyes, the bad break offset the luck the US received in their first match when England's goaltender misplayed a shot into a goal for the US.
In the other matches today, England has odds of -230 to beat Slovenia. If Slovenia wins, they would win the group, but a loss would place them in danger of falling short of the next round. Slovenia has odds of +650.
In Group D, Germany is a -225 favorite over Ghana, who has odds of +600. Australia is a +340 underdog to favorite Serbia in the other match. Serbia has odds of -125 to win and possibly move on to the next round of the World Cup.
