World Cup Betting Preview: Italy Could Face Similar Fate As France
The 2010 World Cup has not been kind so far to finalists from the last World Cup four years ago. France, the runner-up in that tournament, has already been sent home this year. Italy will try to avoid the same fate when they face Slovakia today.
The Italian squad has played nothing like the team that won the last World Cup. Age seems to have set in and Italy is having a tough time finding finishers around the goal. If they stumble today, it will be a long four years for the national team.
The good news for Italy is they have drawn the weakest team of the group so far in Slovakia in the third group match. Slovakia is still clinging to slight hope4s of making it out of the group stage with a win over Italy.
The Italians have odds of -225, compared to Slovakia's +650. That would indicate that gamblers believe Italy should have no trouble winning the match. In the other game in Group F, Paraguay, the group leader, has odds of -225 to defeat New Zealand, a team returning odds of +700.
Group E is a little more clear cut when it comes to moving on to the knockout stage. The Netherlands have already qualified for the next round, and will wrap up the top spot in the group with a win or a draw. Japan and Denmark both have three points and will be playing for the right to move on.
Denmark is the betting favorite, with odds of +110. Japan's odds are slightly longer at +265, but both teams understand that the other is capable of winning this game. The Netherlands are large favorites at -135 in their match versus Cameroon. Underdog bettors can receive four to one on their money should Cameroon pull the upset.
