World Cup Gambling Reaches Fever Pitch With Argentina And Germany
Argentina and Germany are two of the best soccer nations in the world. The two countries have done battle on the pitch many times before, and today they once again renew acquaintances with a trip to the 2010 World Cup semi-finals on the line.
The personalities that have fueled this rivalry in the past can be exhibited today on the Argentine sideline. Diego Maradona has been involved with several of the most famous battles between the two soccer nations, and he will have his Argentina team prepared for the match.
This is the type rivalry that Americans see every year in Major League Baseball between the Yankees and Red Sox. In order for it to create a buzz, there has to be history that has haunted both teams. For the Red Sox it was Bucky Dent and Babe Ruth, and for the Yankees it was blowing a 3-0 series lead to Boston.
Argentina remembers how the Germans knocked them out in this same round four years ago on penalty kicks. In 1990, Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final. Four years earlier in 1986, Argentina won the World Cup with a 3-2 victory over Germany.
The two have been separated by so little over the past twenty years, that sports books have made the game a pick with Argentina slightly favored on the money line. Argentina has odds of +135, and Germany returns odds of +200. The winner will play either Spain or Paraguay in the semi-finals.
Spain is a massive favorite over Paraguay in their quarter-final match this evening. Spain carries odds of -210, while Paraguay offers a tempting bet for underdog gamblers at +700. The total in the game is two, with the Germany and Argentina total set at 2.5.
