World Cup Quarter-Final Betting Odds: Spain Is Largest Favorite
The 2010 World Cup has seen its share of upsets, but that does not mean the teams that were beaten did not survive. In fact, one of the teams that took an early loss, Spain, is the biggest betting favorite heading into the quarter-finals this weekend.
Spain was one of the favorites coming into the World Cup, but they were shocked in their first match with Switzerland. After rebounding to win their group, Spain will now play Paraguay, a team that qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time ever with a shootout win over Japan on Tuesday.
Spain comes into the game with betting odds of -200. That means a gambler will have to lay double the amount they want to win if they pick Spain to win. Paraguay would be the best choice among the final eight teams for underdog gamblers, holding odds of +600.
Uruguay and Ghana are two somewhat surprising quarter-finalists. Uruguay moved through earlier this week, and Ghana used their speed to get past group winning USA in overtime. The US is the only one of the group winners that did not advance to the quarter-finals.
Uruguay is the favorite, with odds of +105, while Ghana has odds of +285. The total for the game is two. This match will be played at 9:30 AM on Friday, with the winner securing a spot in the semi-finals next week.
The other two matches in the quarters feature four of the top teams in the world. Germany will face Australia in one match, and Brazil and the Netherlands will battle in the other. Brazil and Argentina joined Spain as favorites to win the tournament before it began.
Brazil has odds of -115, and the Netherlands return odds of +330. The total is 2.5. Argentina is favored in the other match, with odds of +130. Germany offers gamblers just over two to one on their money with odds of +210. The total for this game is also 2.5.
