World Series Betting Odds May Be Altered With Pettite Injury
The New York Yankees are the defending World Series champions, and they have been the betting favorites for much of this season to win another title. On Saturday, an injury to Andy Pettite may have odds makers rethinking the future betting odds.
Pettite has been arguably the best Yankees starter this season. While his career has spanned many years, none have started as good as 2010. Pettite made the all-star team, and his ERA and wins are among the best of his career before the all-star break.
Yankees fans may take comfort in the fact that the injury took place with still a couple of weeks left before the trade deadline. The front office had been seeking a first base option, but may now turn their attention to another front of the rotation starter.
The Tampa Rays have been the Yankees stiffest competition so far this season, but they fell three games back of New York after losing two of three over the weekend to the Yankees. Tampa has one of the few pitching staffs in the league that can match up with New York.
Boston was supposed to be the team that challenged the Yankees, but injuries have devastated the Red Sox at a time when they were just starting to play good baseball. Victor Martinez, Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Josh Beckett have all spent significant time on the disabled list.
The American League Central and West may also have something to say about who represents the league in the World Series. Minnesota, Chicago, and Detroit in the Central, and Texas in the West are all playing good baseball in recent weeks.
