World Series Betting Odds: Rays Favored Over Phillies
The Tampa Bay Rays have gone from being a laughingstock in Major League Baseball to the favorites in the World Series in less than a year. Last season, the Rays finished in last place. On Wednesday evening, they enter the World Series as the favorites to win a title over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies have had an easier road so far to the World Series. They beat up on Milwaukee in the first round of the playoffs and crushed the hottest team in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to win the National League pennant.
The Rays, on the other hand, just finished a grueling series with the defending champion Boston Red Sox in which they almost blew a three games to one lead. They prevailed, however, and are now just four games from their first championship.
The match up will consist of the Phillies experience against the Rays youth. Experience has not fared well for either the Red Sox or the Chicago White Sox so far this post season. The Rays are good, and they know it. It does not matter how young they are.
Sports books have installed the Rays as a small favorite. Tampa Bay is -145 and Philadelphia is +125 in the series. It is worth noting that the Phillies were also underdogs in their series with the Dodgers. The World Series begins on Wednesday night in Tampa Bay.
