Yankees Emerge As Betting Favorites As Season Starts Tonight
The New York Yankees and their fans take great pride in the fact that they have won more World Series championships than any other organization. If they had won all the times, however, that they were pre-season favorites, the team would have even more to boast about.
With the season starting tonight when Philadelphia and Atlanta play, the Yankees are once again in a familiar situation. They are the betting favorites to win this year's World Series, with 4-1 odds.
Divisional rival Boston, is right behind the Yanks at 11-2. That leaves the top two favorites to win a title coming from the American League East. The Rays, who won the American League pennant last year, are an 18-1 choice as the season begins.
A pair of National League teams are next on the list after the Red Sox and Yankees, although neither has had much playoff success of late. The Mets and Cubs are both 8-1 picks to win it all.
Defending champion Philadelphia, who gets the honor of starting the season with the first game, are 15-1 to repeat. Their odds have dropped because of a fear that Cole Hamels arm is not at full strength.
The long shots for this season are the Baltimore Orioles. Stuck in a division with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays, Baltimore has long odds of 175-1.
