Yankees Gamble On Postponing Opener Pays Off in Prime Time
The New York Yankees are the most storied franchise in the history of American sports. They are bigger than the Lakers in basketball, and the Cowboys in football. They are sport in our country.
So when they decide to post[pone their home opener because of a threat of rain, nobody balks. While most teams would not get the luxury of making the decision, Major League Baseball gives the Yankees free reign to do whatever they would like.
The game was rescheduled for Tuesday night. It was one of the few times that the Yankees have opened the season at night. The gamble from Monday paid off on Tuesday, New York beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2.
Alex Rodriguez, who is making more money playing this season than the entire Florida Marlins roster, went 2-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI.
The Yankee captain, Derek Jeter, was 1-4 on the day. Bobby Abreu and Melky Cabrera both scored runs for the Yankees. The Blue Jays lost with their ace on the mound, Roy Halladay.
Many fans in New York were not happy with the game being rained out on Monday. They took time off of work to go see opening day, and they wondered why, with such a light rain, the game was canceled.
