Yankees Gambling Against Curse By Drilling Up Red Sox Jersey
The New York Yankees have gotten the best of their rivalry with the Boston Red Sox for the most part. That is until a few years ago. The Red Sox have won two of the last four World Series', and now are turning jinxes on the Yanks.
Earlier this week it was reported that a construction worker had buried a David Ortiz Red Sox jersey under what will be the new Yankees stadium. He placed the jersey on the ground, then poured cement over it, so it would have forever been under the stadium.
After word got out about the jersey, the Yankees were originally going to leave it alone. In the world of baseball, that would have been unacceptable. So the Yanks used hints that they received from other construction workers, and found the location of the jersey.
What they did next borders on insanity. they had jackhammer's drill through the concrete until they found, and retrieved, the jersey. Now, the bombers are considering pressing charges against the construction worker.
"We will take appropriate action since fortunately we do know the name of the individual," said Yankees CEO Lonn Trost. The man, Gino Castignoli, is a Red Sox fan, who felt he was putting a jinx on the Yanks when he buried the jersey.
The Yankees had thought about leaving the jersey buried, but decided against it. "The first thought was, you know, it's never a good thing to be buried in cement when you're in New York. But then we decided, why reward somebody who had really bad motives and was trying to do a really bad thing," said Yankee President, Randy Levine.
