Mirage Hotel & Casino Review (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas

I had the pleasure of visiting the MGM owned Mirage Casino in Las Vegas last week, did some gambling, saw a great show and mingled with a great many people, all of whom were having a fabulous time.

What brought me to the Mirage was the 'Summer of Love' show performed by Cirque De Soleil, inspired by The Beatles release of 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' album, released in the summer of love, 1967. A cast of 60 international artists with youthful, raw energy provide aerial performances, skateboarding, and urban freestyle dances during the show.

The Love Theater offers a panoramic view of the entire stage, surround sound throughout the theater, which was custom built to accommodate this production, has music coming at you in every direction, including from the rear of the seats in front of you.

Two large screens, one on either side of the theater, provided great visuals of the Beatles performing and talking, as well as giving one glimpses into what the authors of Sgt. Pepper were imagining when these songs were written more than forty years ago. Sheer curtains are occasionally drawn to the stage area during scene changes and provided silhouettes of the Beatles performing some of their music, or talking and carrying on antics they made famous.

The music was re-mastered at Apple Studios in England from the original tapes, with direction from principles from the early years.

This show is a fabulous performance and worth the price of getting to and staying in Las Vegas.

After the show, my companion and I went to play some slots directly outside the Love Theater. Beatles music continued to entertain us and it made for a very enjoyable few hours as we sang to the songs as we continued to feed the machines.

The slot machines at the Mirage are like many you find in Las Vegas, the exception being that they seemed to be looser than in other casinos.

We stayed in this area for a few hours and I actually left winning $256. My companion also left with meager gains, but it was one of the more joyful, fulfilling sessions we had in the four days we were here gambling and reviewing.

The Mirage Casino also boasts a lounge built to accent the Love show, called 'The Beatles Revolution Lounge', and as you may have guessed, it is a Beatle themed lounge. The Revolution Lounge, created by Cirque Du Soleil and inspired by the spirit of The Beatles, offers an extended experience before and after the show. The lounge is revolutionary in its design and atmosphere, featuring cutting edge, interactive experiences to create a psychedelic sensory environment and modern interpretation of The Beatles era. I did not see the changes but I am told by management that each night both the music and interior transform, resulting in an eclectic nightclub adventure.

The Mirage offers high limit gaming in their exclusive High Limit Lounge.

The basic casino is stocked well with ample slots, Blackjack tables, Roulette, Baccarat, Pai Gow and Craps. There is also a High Limit Slot area for high stakes players. There is also Poker and a Sports and Race Book.

If dining out is your thing there are many fine restaurants at the Mirage.

Japonais, the place to go for sushi and cold appetizers as well as entrees created by celebrated Chef/Partner Gene Kato.

Stack is an American Bistro in an innovative environment that feels intimate and expansive.

Contemporary Chinese dishes, tempered with an eclectic blend of international cuisines can be had at the edgy yet elegant FIN.

ONDA serves prime steaks, fresh seafood and giant lobster tails as you dine in a tropical rainforest, surrounded by waterfalls and an interior lagoon.

Samba is a Brazilian-style barbeque offering unlimited portions of marinated meats poultry and seafood, as well as an a la carte menu.

For those that want more casual dining, there are many to choose from, all of which are excellent. The Caribe Café, California Pizza Kitchen, Cravings, Carnegie Delicatessen, Paradise Café, Coconuts Ice Cream Shop, The Roasted Bean, and Dolphin Snack Bar can satisfy any discerning diner.

Bare is an exclusive adult alternative to the typical Las Vegas pool experience. The Bare is the ultimate in poolside pampering with a distinctive contemporary ambiance and ultra VIP service. There are two dipping pools that have private daybeds and boatbeds, as well as chaise lounges. Specialty foods and drinks are available. The Bare area can be rented for $2,000 an hour and it can accommodate up to 450 guests for private parties beginning at 7 P.M. As the name implies, it can be a bare experience.

For the family oriented, the Mirage has a tropical paradise along a quarter mile of shoreline at the Mirage Pool.

The Mirage offers offsite golf at the Shadow Creek and Primm Gold Courses.

Of course, the Mirage Casino has ample Guest Rooms and Suites that are elegantly appointed, have concierge services, a Spa and Salon and many shops for you to spend your winnings.

The Mirage is one of several owned and operated in Las Vegas by MGM/Mirage. In fact, if you have gone to Vegas, you likely have stayed at one or more of their properties, which include Bellagio, MGM Grand, Treasure Island New York-New York Beau Rivage, CityCenter, Circus Circus Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo.
