Wynn Hotel & Casino Review (Las Vegas, Nevada)

The Wynn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, owned by Steve Wynn, is an elegant, tasteful destination. Its rooms are large
and nicely appointed, with king sized beds fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets and comforters to a
sophisticated, electronic mini bar that charges your room if an item is removed from its place for
60 seconds or more.
Views from the room include a panoramic of the north end of the Vegas Strip. Shopping is for the upper
echelon of society with stores such as Rolex, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Oscar De La Renta, Cartier, Channel,
Brioni, Jean Paul Gautier, only to name a few. There is also a Ferrari Dealership here. For those not
quite up to spending your life savings at one of these fine stores you can cross the Strip to the Fashion
Center where you can do some slumming at stores such as Abercrombie and Fitch, and other similarly low
cost destinations.
The Wynn Casino is located just north of the Venetian and across the street from the
future Trump Towers site.
It is just a short walk to the Mirage or Treasure Island. The new Chinatown is just a short drive away,
and that features many eateries from the Asian Rim.
Other amenities offered at the Wynn include four heated pools and two spas. There are also two private
pools available only to Tower Suite guests. Cabanas can be rented and they include a separate changing
area, a misting system to cool you down, soft drinks, snacks, juice, water, fruit plates, a telephone
and cable TV. Oh, and I should mention there is a poolside casino where you can gamble and watch sporting
events on plasma TVs.
For those wishing to tie the knot, there are two Wedding Salons, providing luxuriously landscaped private
outdoor courtyard seating that can accommodate up to 100 guests. The Wynn Wedding Salons are not for the
quickie Las Vegas Wedding seeker.
AAA has given its coveted Five Diamond award for dining to “Alex,” featuring the delicate flavors of the
French Riviera. Open from 6 PM until 10 PM, children under five are prohibited; jackets are suggested for
men, no casual attire permitted.
There are five restaurants that have achieved AAA’s Four Diamond status; similar restrictions apply at
SW Steakhouse, Bartolotta Ristorante Di Mare, Okada, Tableau and Wing Lei. Jackets are not requested at
these, however dress is casual elegant.
Of course, there is a wide variety of bars and lounges throughout the property.
Wynn also features an 18-hole golf course at its Country Club. Steve Wynn, along with Tom Fazio, designed
this stunning golf course. The famed course is a par-70, 7,042 yards in length and it is built to USGA
specifications. The greens are Pennlinks Bentgrass and the fairways and tees are Tifway II Hybrid Bermuda grass.
The Wynn Casino
One can enter the casino from any point on the ground level. The Wynn has slot machines ranging in value
play of one penny to $5,000. There are many types of progressive, standard and poker machines, which give
you the opportunity to gamble in many different combinations.
Table games include Blackjack, Big 6, Craps, Roulette, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let-it-Ride, Pai Gow Poker,
Pai Gow, Three Card Poker and of course War. There is also a Baccarat Room and a Poker Room. Games in the
Poker Room are offered at $4/$8 up to $150/$300. Higher limit games are available for those interested.
The Wynn also features a Race and Sports Book, providing satellite broadcasts from around the world. To
participate one must open a wagering account, as everything in this area is high tech and fully automated.
Electronic devices are not allowed in this area and there are large Plasma screens everywhere.
I spent the better part of my first day at the Wynn Casino, trying my luck at several different slots ranging
in play from $2 on the penny machines to $20 a pull on the $5 machines. Although I did not win and my losses
were capped at only $250, I managed to stay in the game for six hours. It was a pleasure for me as a smoker
to be able to wander about freely through the casino with a cigarette, unlike those casinos in Atlantic City.
My companion played the $.25 machines for the afternoon and she ended her day winning about $35.
The Wynn Casino is a luxurious spot that features all the ammenties Las Vegas has to offer, however there is
not much 'culture' as can be found in other luxury Vegas Hotel and Casinos like the
Venetian.
