Information on Blackjack and How to Play Blackjack
Blackjack for Beginners - You are dealt two cards and the dealer is dealt two cards with the dealer only
showing one. It is your job to get a higher amount than the dealer without going over the number 21. You have the option to 'hit'
your two cards, which means you can ask for another card if you think it necessary to beat the dealer. A 'hit' signal at a Las Vegas
or Macau table would be recognized by the dealer as a point or tapping on your cards with your index finger.
You can also choose to not accept any new cards
if you think your hand is better than the dealer's. This would be signaled at a real table as with a waving finger gesture above
your dealt hand. Once you are happy with your cards, if you have not busted (gone over 21), then the dealer flips his hidden card.
If the dealer has less than 17 he must take another card, although this rule varies depending on which version of the game you
are playing. Once the dealer has reached a number 17 or higher, or if he himself has busted, the game is over. Whoever has the
highest total wins.
If the first two cards you were dealt are a picture card (or a ten card) along with
an ace card then you have blackjack and you automatically win.
Basic Blackjack Strategy by the Book - If you are dealt a 17 or higher, or build up your total to 17 or higher, stay no
matter what the dealer has. If you have 16 or lower and the dealer is showing a 7 or higher you take another card. You always
assume that the card the dealer is not showing is a picture card and if his total with that picture card is 17 or higher, you must
try to beat it. If you are dealt a 9, 10, or 11 and the dealer is showing a 6 card or lower, you double down. No matter what the
dealer has you always split aces and eights and you never split tens, fives, or fours. You always split nines unless the dealer
has a 7, 10, or ace.
You only split sixes if the dealer is showing a 3, 4, 5, or 6, and you only split threes and twos if the dealer is showing a 4, 5, 6,
or 7.
